Middle School Art: Emotion Masks

Students in Middle School Art studied African masks and explored how lines, colors and shapes can communicate emotion.  After constructing a mask with paper mache, each student chose an emotion to convey with line, color and shape using colored paper, acrylic paint and raffia.

Sacred Art Workshop: Albrecht Durer

Students studied the life and work of German Renaissance artist, Albrecht Durer.  Students noticed his beautifully detailed drawings and woodcut prints inspired by his careful study of God's beautiful and complex world.  Students chose an animal to draw and study and went on to create a relief print with ink and styrofoam.

Sacred Art Workshop: Illuminated Manuscripts

Students studied illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages. They responded by designing and creating their own illuminated manuscript inspired by a Bible verse.  Watercolor pencil and metallic marker were used to add color and "glow"!

Sacred Art: Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel

Sacred Art students studied the life and work of Renaissance artist, Michelangelo.  They studied his paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and then created their own paintings inspired by the story of Noah.  While listening to the story, they painting their work on the "ceiling' of their table!
